Need To Make Money? 4 Tips To Sell An Unwanted Car

Posted on

If you need to make money and have a car that you no longer want, this is a great way to put the green you need in your bank account. Below are four tips so you can sell your unwanted car quick.

Clean the Car

For a newer car, take it to a car detailer to have the car thoroughly cleaned. A detailer does much more than wash the outside and wipe down and vacuum the inside. Instead, they get into all small corners, vacuum where a standard car wash will not vacuum, and even shampoo carpets if needed.  If your car is not dirty at all, a standard car wash will do fine.

Inspect Exterior

if you have an older car, go over the body of the car closely. If you see small rust spots you may be able to fix these on your own if the rust has not penetrated deeply. If it has not, use a sander to sand the rust away and then paint the area with a paint that is the same color as your car. If the rust has penetrated deeply the only thing you can do is to replace the part. You should simply tell the buyer so they can decide if they would like to repair the car.

Sell for Parts

If the car is very old, you can sell it for parts instead of selling the entire car. This includes many things, such as internal components like the engine, carburetor, alternator, and more. People may also want outside things like the mirrors, headlights, and more.  You can find establishments that will pay a price for your entire car and then disassemble the car to sell for parts.

Determine the Value

You need to determine the value of your car, especially if it is newer. This will prevent you from selling it far below its value. One way to do this is by looking at the blue book value. This compares your car's value to other cars that are the same make, model, and year. There are many websites that you can find that will give you an approximate value. You simply enter in the make, model, year, condition, and how many miles on the car and it will calculate an estimate. Use more than one website so you can compare.

Do your research and you can find many other tips to help you sell your unwanted car.
